Step-By-Step Repair Guide

Step 1: Diagnose the Problem

If your engine is overheating, it's likely that the thermostat is faulty. The thermostat controls the quantity of coolant that goes into the engine to prevent overheating. If it's faulty, the engine might get too hot or too cold.

Step 2: Disconnect the Battery

Before starting any work on the vehicle, ensure safety by disconnecting the battery.

Step 3: Locate the Thermostat

The thermostat is in a housing on the engine side of the upper radiator hose. Remove any obstacles from its way, you may need to remove the air filter and its housing for better accessibility.

Step 4: Remove the Old Thermostat

Use your socket set to remove the bolts holding the thermostat housing and lift it out of the way. Underneath, you'll find the thermostat which can be easily lifted out.

Step 5: Install the New Thermostat

Place the new thermostat where the old one was, ensuring the spring loaded valve end is direct into the engine.

Step 6: Reconnect the Housing and Battery

Reconnect the thermostat housing and tighten the bolts. Be careful not to overtighten. Then, reconnect the battery.

Step 7: Refill with Coolant

Finally, refill your coolant reservoir with coolant fluid to the correct level.

Step 8: Test

Start the car and let it warm up while looking for leaks. Ensure the car does not overheat anymore.
